We will have a play soon~

Last week, our dear teacher told us that we will have a play on 4 May. The show is called” The drops of life”. It is a story anout tree planting and co-operation. We have prepared a lot of things since last Monday. And we practiced our scripts together and decided which part of job we needed to do today.

I am the team leader in this activity, so my job is making sure that everyone does his job, and I also have to write a press release for my team. I hope we can do a good job.

Soon, we have exam to prepare, but I know everyone will do their best and to have a goo job in this play~

The story of my family

On March 30, 2007, I had an interview with my aunt. I decided to share the story that she told me. And that is the story of my family…… 

        In Manchu Dynasty, the Guo family carried a lot of luggage, held the babies, and said goodbye loudly to their neighbors. They were Zi-Yi Guo’s descendants. Zi-Yi Guo who was famous general in Tang Dynasty. They were going to move to a new world from Fukien.They went through the storm, went through surge, and overcame the bafflements on the sea. Finally, they reached their new world –
Taiwan. 

They found a place called Taoyuan which is very good to plant the crop. They decided to live there and to consider Taoyuan the second hometown. They worked hard so as to make money and built a new life. After a long time, they still lived there, but they were not as rich as before. A woman who lived for 100 years in the family spent all the money on gambling. She lost heavily and needed to sell all the ground to pay back the debt. So the Guo family became very poor. They couldn’t buy the things they wanted, and they couldn’t even buy the rice to feed the children sometimes. 

Though they were too poor to support the whole family, they didn’t move to another place. They just worked harder than before and believed there would be a chance to let their family became as auspicious as the past. Every child in the family had to work when they were little. The oldder children had to take care of the younger ones. The life for these young children was hard, but they didn’t complain anything. Because they knew how hard their parents work to support this family. Even a 14 years old girl had to work in the factory so as to earn money if she wanted to study in the school. She was tired on the weekend sometimes, but she had to do the housework for the family. 

 

One day, a girl called Chu-Hui got sick seriously in the family. She couldn’t move her body and felt terrible. Her father carried her on the back to a distant hospital, because there was no hospital around their town. She was heavy at that time, because she was already 12 years old. After they saw the doctor, her father bought her some fruit. She was so happy, because they couldn’t able to eat fruit except on New Year. She forgot to keep some of the fruit for her father. He was so tired after carried her daughter to the doctor. The little girl felt very guilty and to said sorry in a faint voice to her father, but he just gave her a smile and said “Never mind. I don’t have to eat them.” What a great father! In this little girl’s mind, she would not forget the love of her father in her all life. Even now, her father has been died for almost 14 years, she still remembers the beautiful smile on her father’s face. 

As the time passed by, the Guo family still lives in Taoyuan. They not only let their family become better and better but also let the number of their members become bigger and bigger now. Though some of family members went outside and had their own family, they still came back on New Year day. Because there is the place they were born. There is the place they used to live. They even feel the responsibility for this land they lived for a long time. They love this place and won’t forget to come back. Even the airport is located at the outskirts of Taoyuan city now; they still choose not to move. 

The story of the Guo family is not so famous that everyone knows it. No one will spread this story on the street. No one will write it in the history. But the story of the Guo family is very important for their sons, daughters and grandchildren. They tried to keep the stories, the memories, and the history that their ancestors created and to tell their descendants about it. No trees will live without their roots. Also, it is not complete for a person who doesn’t know their family’s story. 

 

On March 30, 2007, I finished the interview with my aunt and hung up the 3-hour phone talk. I closed my eyes and pictured the scenes in the story. Gradually, I fell asleep. I dreamed I was adventuring with all my ancestors……
