Our school, Lishan Senior High School will put on a global children’s play, “The Drops of Life” on June 11, 2007. It will be presented by a group of 10th graders who are in the English Project Class in Lishan Senior High School. The English teacher will lead her students to give everyone an impressive afternoon.
The original idea of this play came from ENO Programme. “The Drops of Life” has been created purely on a voluntary basis. The original manuscript is made by a Finnish writer and artist, Mr. Esko-Pekka Tiitinen. The music and the English translation are made by Mr. Mika Vanhanen, the co-founder and co-oridination of the ENO Programme. And the global premiere will be on the 29th of May, 2007. ENO Programme hopes people of every country pay more attention to the world environmental issues through this performance. They prefer to play this show for local people and youth. And let them understand how serious the world will be if we don’t protect the place we live. The main theme of the play covers environmental problems like desertification and the climate changes. The story is taking place in a dry desert. One day, animals form many countries are gathered by an owl. To solve the environmental problem, desertification, they decide to plan trees. They face some obstacles but get help from a little girl. She feels the joy of help and therefore can advise and help the animals to solve the problems. They also learn that they can do more if they work together. The animals, five in total, in this play represent mostly endangered species and come from different part of world. There are: Koala (Australia), Panda (Asia), Gorilla (Africa), Puma (America) and Owl (Europe). It delivers a message that protecting our environment is not certain people’s job. It’s an important issue for every race, every country, every city, and every person on earth. There are at least 64 countries, 147 schools joining this play, and this play is available in 14 languages and many to come now. These will be organized jointly with of The World Environment Day and The Tree Planting Day.As a member of the world, we hope the main theme of “The Drops Of Life” can be spread to all the people in Taiwan. We should take care of the place we live. And we have to think of more strategies about how to protect our land and our wild animals. In this way, we can have a better environment to live and so can our children. A clean and pollution-free world will be around us forever and forever.

Dear Alice:
I like your vivid description of the play and your concern for our environment. Last September, i started to get involved in ENO programs, and then realized how many teachers out there have been eager to do somethng. I really admire the founders of ENO, who show us that even one individual can do somthing to raise awareness. Thank you for your wonderful introduction of the play. I am looking forward to your great perfomance!
